The Process of Renting a Car
What if you’re in same situation and want to hire a car? Here is the process of car renting:
Make a Reservation
Walk-in to a car rental agency is a good idea and mostly works. However, sometimes, especially during holiday season, agencies run out of cars for rent. You can always walk-in though sometimes it’s better to make a prior reservation. A reservation can be made phone or the website of most rental agencies.
Talk to the front desk agent:
The agent will ask you to verify the reservation and for two-piece of documents: a valid Driver’s License and a Credit Card. Be prepared to have a second piece of Id with your address on it.
Review the Rental Agreement
Upon validating the Driver’s License and Credit Card, the agent will provide with a rental agreement which you should read carefully before signing. Some of the things you should give special attention to include:
- Number of kilometres allowed per day
- Grace Periods
- Credit Card usage terms
- Any additional fees
- Late fees, if any
Check the insurance excess
Check the validity of insurance, policy and terms and conditions before signing the contract. Many car agencies offer added layer of insurance over the normal insurance when renting a vehicle from them. The added insurance may come with hefty charges but if you’re an inexperienced driver or are not familiar with the local road rules consider the added layer of insurance.
Check the Vehicle
Review the car, inside out. Look for any sign of damages, performance, clutch and brakes if something is not working properly, inform the agency immediately. If you miss any of these, you might be held responsible for them.
Return the vehicle
Return the car with the same amount of fuel as when it left. The attendants at the agency expect the car to be in the same condition as at the time of renting. So make sure it is if you don’t want the additional charges. Always be honest if you have caused damage to the vehicle as this will allow you to deal with the situation quickly on the day.
